Building a Movement

Just Harvest dedicates a significant portion of our work to building strategic alliances and contributing to a stronger and more effective movement for sustainable food. We are a member and active participant in many national alliances and coalitions, some of which are listed here:

  • Alliance for Fair Food (AFF)
The AFF is the network of allied community, student, labor, sustainable food, environmental and human rights organizations that support the work of the CIW through the education and animation of their members. Member organizations include the Family Farm Defenders, United Students Against Sweatshops (USAS), Amnesty International, Oxfam America, Presbyterian Church U.S.A., Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Center for Human Rights, National Social and Economic Rights Initiative (NESRI) and dozens of others.

  • Food Chain Workers Alliance (FCWA)
Founding member of the FCWA, a new alliance of organizations of workers who work along the food chain – farmworkers, food processing workers, food retail and distribution workers, supermarket workers and restaurant workers. The FCWA collaborates on efforts to improve wages and working conditions for low-wage workers in our food system.

  • Domestic Fair Trade Association (DFTA)
Member of the DFTA, a national coalition whose members have come together to contribute to a movement for fairness, equity and sustainability that supports family-scale farming, farmer-led initiatives such as farmer co-operatives, just conditions for farm workers, and the strengthening of the organic agriculture movement in the U.S.

  • U.S. Working Group on the Food Crisis
Member of the US Working Group on the Food Crisis, an ad hoc group of organizations around the U.S. who believe that the “food crisis” is an inevitable consequence of the development of a long list of misguided agricultural and food policies of the last thirty years.

Just Harvest is also a member of Slow Food USA, the Community Food Security Coalition, and more.
